The brand new Let Freedom Ring Parade will start at 2:00pm at Sykesville Middle School and route the length of Historic Main Street. “We chose “Let Freedom Ring” as our theme because not only does it encompass the patriotic spirit of the holiday, the entire Sykesville and Eldersburg region is known as the Freedom area.” states Annie Kennedy, the Parade Committee Chair and Main Street merchant Cowboys & Angels Boutique shop owner. Other committee members include fellow merchants Katie Johnson from Norwood Ice Cream & Candy Company, Ridia and Stewart Dearie from The Vine on Main and Baldwin’s Station Restaurant, and Julie Della-Maria, DSC Executive Director. “My favorite 4th of July was spent in a small town in Vermont; half of their town was in the parade and the other half was watching and cheering for them!” remembers Ridia Dearie. The goal of the parade is to promote the Freedom area’s special community and small town spirit. Entrants will include floats, marching units, organized groups, and vehicles. Awards for floats will be announced at the after-parade party, which will be held around 3:00pm, directly following the end of the parade. A float viewing area, live music, and an old-fashioned 4th of July picnic with food and drink available to eat there or take along to the next activity. Parade application should be mailed to the DSC office: 7307 Spout Hill Road, Sykesville MD, 21784. Event details will also be available in the event section of our Facebook Page.
